Obituary for Kai Yau Chan
It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Kai Yau Chan, who peacefully passed away in her sleep on January 2, 2025, at the age of 91. Born in 1933 in China, she is preceded in death by her beloved husband, Fúk-Chung Chan. Kai moved to the United States to build a better life for her family.
A beloved mother, grandmother, and matriarch, Kai Yau's journey in life was defined by resilience, hard work, and an unwavering dedication to her loved ones. She settled in Valley Stream, where she raised her four children, Rosanna, James, John, and Michael.
For many years, Kai ran her own restaurant in Queens, pouring her heart and soul into the family business. She was a devoted mother, grandmother, and great grandmother. She leaves behind not only her four children but also her 11 grandchildren and 1 great granddaughter, each of whom held a special place in her heart and affectionately known to all of them as Pó po. They will all miss her dearly.
She will be remembered for her strength, her warmth, and her enduring love for her family. Kai was a loving and supportive mother who always put the needs of her children and family first. She provided a foundation of love, strength, and guidance that will live on through them.
A private family service will be held to honor her memory. Memorial service will be held on January 7th, 2025 at St James Funeral Home, 829 Middle Country Road, St. James NY. Memorial begins at 10am and burial at 1 pm at Pinelawn Memorial Park. Reception to follow.
