Obituary for Stanislawa Makucewicz

Stanislawa Makucewicz, 87, of Locust Valley, passed away November 17th, 2020, peacefully at home with family by her side.

She was born in Rosalin, Poland on March 9th, 1933. After completing technical high school, she married Zbigniew Los in 1952. In 1980, following Zbigniew’s death, she emigrated to the United States and eventually married Frank Makucewicz in 1983. In the most recent decade, Stella was able to split her time between Poland and Long Island, doting on grandchildren and gardens on both continents.

She is survived by three daughters: Barbara Los-Matacz of Shirley, NY; Ewa Górska of Gdynia, Poland, and Iwona Siuda of Locust Valley, NY. She is also survived by 7 grandchildren: Anna, Andrzej, Magdalena, Zbigniew, Zofia, Katarzyna, Krzysztof and 7 great grandchildren.

Like many from her generation, she found her greatest strength during the most demanding times. Stella’s resilience and determination to guide her extended family, both in the US and Poland, displayed ultimate selflessness and love of family. Her first instinct was always to put her family first.

Later in life, with the well-being of her family secured, Stella would most-often be found in the garden tending to flowers, or in the kitchen preparing food for anyone with an appetite.

Private family viewing and Celebration Of Life Ceremony will take place on Friday, November 20th at 1pm at the LIC Cremation. Memorial service will be arranged by the family in the year 2021. The family wishes that friends and family make donations to the Hospice Care Network in lieu of sending flowers.
